to
work more.
While I might not put it that bluntly, I do think your employer needs to know you could be more productive working from home.
35 million and growing.
It is
estimated that in 2007, 35 million
workers in the U.S. telecommuted 8 or more hours per month, and 12 million
telecommuted 8 or more hours per week. (©2008 Greener World Media, Inc.’s State of Green Business 2008)
Organizations across the globe are realizing the advantages of a workforce that telecommutes
part or full time. That number continues to grow as more and more employers begin
to appreciate the benefits:
- Reducing their carbon footprint
- Reducing overhead costs
- Increasing production from
employees
- Reducing employee time and
money spent commuting
- Increasing employee well-being (as they say - a happy
employee is a more productive employee)
Working longer, smarter.
Do you
need some facts to convince your boss of the benefits of telecommuting? Try
these:
According to ©2008 Greener
World Media, Inc.’s State of Green
Business 2008:
“A British
Telecom study found that the average telecommuter works 11% more hours than an
office-bound counterpart. It also found that reduced costs for office space and
other overhead saved employers an
additional amount equal to 17 percent of annual salary costs (not to mention
reduced energy use from not having to heat and cool as much building space).
The Colorado Telework Coalition reports that American Express’s teleworkers
produce 43 percent more business
than employees at the office. Compaq teleworkers are 15 to 45 percent more productive than their office-bound
counterparts. Other studies have found that being able to offer flexibility can
reduce staff turnover by up to 20 percent and reduce absenteeism by as much as 80 percent.”
Win-Win-Win situation
Telecommuting
is a win-win-win situation. Your company wins, the environment wins, and you
win. So if you’re not already telecommuting part of your week – why not ask?
It’s the environmentally and socially responsible thing to do.
